Some photos and videos of my Mauritius Holidays will be posted here :) I am currently in Singapore. Been here for 5 years already but I go back to Mauritius from time to time for the holidays to visit my parents & relatives & friends, enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches and just stay away from the hustling and bustling streets of Singapore!

About Mauritius

Geography - Mauritius is a volcanic island situated just above the Tropic of Capricorn, in the south of the Indian Ocean and approximately 2400 kilometres off the South East Coast of Africa. It has an area of 1860 Km2. Coral reefs surround most of the coast except the south.

LANGUAGES - English is the official language, but almost everyone speak, read and write French. Creole is the mother tongue and is spoken throughout the island.

People & Culture - The population in Mauritius is around 1.2 million. Three-fifths of the population are either Creole or of French descent, and two-fifths are Indian descent. Europeans and Chinese form smaller communities. Half of the population is Hindu, about one-third Christian, and the rest are Muslims.

Shopping - These vary from town to town but are usually around 09:30 - 17:30. Many shops close on Thursday or Saturday afternoons. Most shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays. However, Christmas in Mauritius is celebrated by all communities in mauritius. This month is the one of the busiest month you could see lots of night life around mauritius and you can see shops which are opened from 8 to 11PM.

Life? - Life in Mauritius is simple. Day starts early and ends early - sun sets at 18.00 and rises at 06.00. People seem to have a lot more time for themselves unlike the busy life in Singapore!. Mauritians are naturally curious but found to be some of the nicest people in the world!

Climate - The island enjoys a tropical climate, which can be divided into two seasons: summer and winter. The hot summer months are from November to April with temperatures up to 35 degrees. Winter falls from May to October with temperatures up to 25 degrees during the daytime. The island normally experiences about 3 or 4 or more tropical cyclones a year (summer months between Oct - Apr) during this period, each usually lasting a couple of days.
