Mikey becoming a reindeer (once again)

I dress the chubby cat once a year. This is Mikey’s second Christmas (see last year’s video)! I didn’t buy a new costume this time as he only wears it for like less than 5 minutes haa. So it’s a waste to get a new costume. He so hates wearing these stuffs! Look at that grumpy cat! :) A cute but unhappy cat!

Foods that should NOT be fed to cats

Some foods which are edible for humans, and even dogs, can pose hazards for cats because of their different metabolism. Some may cause only mild digestive upsets, whereas, others can cause severe illness, and even death. The following common food items should not be fed (intentionally or unintentionally) to cats. This list is, of course, incomplete because we can not possibly list everything your cat should not eat.

  1. Alcoholic beverages - Can cause intoxication, coma, and death.
  2. Baby food - Can contain onion powder, which can be toxic to cats. (Please see onion below.) Can also result in nutritional deficiencies, if fed in large amounts.
  3. Bones from fish, poultry, or other meat sources - Can cause obstruction or laceration of the digestive system.
  4. Canned tuna (for human consumption) - Large amounts can cause malnutrition, since it lacks proper levels of vitamins and minerals.
  5. Chocolate, coffee, tea, and other caffeine - Contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline, which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous system.
  6. Citrus oil extracts - Can cause vomiting.
  7. Dog food - If accidental ingestion, will not cause a problem; if fed repeatedly, may result in malnutrition and diseases affecting the heart.
  8. Fat trimmings - Can cause pancreatitis.
  9. Grapes and raisins - Contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys.
  10. Human vitamin supplements containing iron - Can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including the liver and kidneys.
  11. Large amounts of liver - Can cause Vitamin A toxicity, which affects muscles and bones.
  12. Macadamia nuts - Contain an unknown toxin, which can affect the digestive and nervous systems and muscle.
  13. Marijuana - Can depress the nervous system, cause vomiting, and changes in the heart rate.
  14. Milk and other dairy products - Some adult cats and dogs do not have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for cats.
  15. Moldy or spoiled food, garbage - Can contain multiple toxins causing vomiting and diarrhea and can also affect other organs.
  16. Mushrooms - Can contain toxins, which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock, and result in death.
  17. Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder) - Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions.
  18. Persimmons - Seeds can cause intestinal obstruction and enteritis.
  19. Potato, rhubarb, and tomato leaves; potato and tomato stems - Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems. This is more of a problem in livestock.
  20. Raw eggs - Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). This can lead to skin and hair coat problems. Raw eggs may also contain Salmonella.
  21. Raw fish - Can result in a thiamine (a B vitamin) deficiency leading to loss of appetite, seizures, and in severe cases, death. More common if raw fish is fed regularly.
  22. Salt - If eaten in large quantities it may lead to electrolyte imbalances.
  23. String - Can become trapped in the digestive system; called a “string foreign body.”
  24. Sugary foods - Can lead to obesity, dental problems, and possibly diabetes mellitus.
  25. Table scraps (in large amounts) - Table scraps are not nutritionally balanced. They should never be more than 10% of the diet. Fat should be trimmed from meat; bones should not be fed.
  26. Tobacco - Contains nicotine, which affects the digestive and nervous systems. Can result in rapid heart beat, collapse, coma, and death.
  27. Yeast dough - Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.

Born with feet facing backwards

A waitress has refused to be classified as disabled even though she was born with feet that face backwards.

Wang Fang, 27, of Chongqing city in China, was born with her feet facing the wrong way, but has learned to live with her condition without problems and recently refused a disability pension.

She said: “I can run faster than most of my friends and have a regular job as a waitress in the family restaurant. There is no reason to class me as disabled.”

Doctors and her family feared she would not be able to walk properly when she was born, but agreed that she can now outrun anyone she knows.

Wang, who has a five year-old son with normal feet, said: “I can walk as well as anyone else, and even run faster than them. I’m like everyone else - except of course that I put my shoes on backwards.”

Holmes, Armstrong run New York City marathon

There may have been a world-class field but it was the celebrity contingent that really dominated the New York Marathon.

While British champ Paula Radcliffe won her first 42km race since giving birth to her child, fellow mum Katie Holmes attracted the lion’s share of attention.

Tom Cruise’s wife, Katie Holmes, drew a huge cheer as she crossed the line amongst thousands of less famous fellow participants in 5hrs 29mins 58sec, according to a fan blog. She was greeted at the finish by her superstar husband and their baby daughter Suri, whose thick mop of hair must be the envy of Hollywood.

Another high profile competitor was cycling legend Lance Armstrong, who recorded a highly creditable time of 2hrs 47min.

Armstrong joined hundreds of fellow runners in wearing a black ribbon in memory of Olympic hopeful Ryan Shay, who dropped dead during a trial run the day before.

“That’s why I put this ribbon on so if I forgot I could look down and see it,” Armstrong told the New York Post.

“It’s one of those stories of a young guy at the top of his game.

“It was certainly unexpected but he’s a runner and if he’s going to go that’s the way to go.”

British world record-holder Radcliffe won the women’s event 10 months after the birth of her first child.

With an official time of 2hrs 23min 9sec, Radcliffe added another New York City crown to the one she won in 2004 by finishing ahead of Ethiopian Gete Wami (2:23:32) and Latvian Jelena Prokopcuka (2:26:13), the winner here for the last two years.

Radcliffe, who has won all seven of the marathons she has finished in her career, was disappointed only in the 2004 Olympic marathon in Athens, where she failed to finish.

The men’s event was won by Kenyan Martin Lel, adding the crown to the title he won in the Big Apple in 2003 by edging Morocco’s Abderrahim Goumri in a sprint finish that recalled their duel to the tape in in London in April.

South African Hendrick Ramaala, who won in New York in 2004, finished third in 2:11.24.

Left Or Right

I am left-left left-right. What about you?

First, identify yourself as right or left brain person:

1. Hold your hands together, as if you were praying. Look at your hands.

Left thumb is below the right thumb —> left brain
Right thumb is below the left thumb —> right brain

2. Fold your arms in front of you (as if you are angry)

Right arm above left arm —> left brain
Left arm above right arm —> right brain

Based on 1+2 (order important), below is the interpretation of your personality:

Right-Left
==========
Considerate, traditional, indirect type

can instinctly read other’s emotion, and respond
friendly by natures. Although not very into
taking intiatives in moving forward, but this person
will always take a step back in supporting
others. Stable personality and considerate, give
others a being protected feeling. But the
weakness is they cannot say no; regardless how
unwilling they are, they will take care of others.

Right-Right
===========
Loves challenges type

Straightfoward. Once they decided on one thing, will
take action right away. Very curious, and
love challenges. Dare to face dangers without
thinking through (sometimes foolishly). Their
weakness is they dont listen to others, will filter
in only what whey want to hear in a
conversation, and very subjective. However, because
of their straightforward attitude, they tend
to be fairly popular.

Left-Left
=========
Dedicated, cold, perfectionist

Very logical in all aspects. The only way to defeat
(or win over) him/her is through reasons. Has
a lot of prides, and feeling strongly about doing
the right thing. If they are your friends, they
are very trustworthy. However, if they are your
opponents, they will be very tough to deal with.
Because they can be very “anal” as a perfectionist,
they usually leave a bad impression of being
hard to deal with when first met.

Left-Right
==========
Likes to take care of others, leader type

Has a cool and keen observation ability to see
through situations, yet still can be considerate in
others needs. Because of their cool and calm nature,
and strong sense of responsibility, they tend
to become head of a group. Popular among people.
However, they may not be able to help themselves
in meddling because they want to take care of others
too much. Very concerned about how others
view them, and always on alert.

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test

I see it both clockwise and anticlockwise … But when I saw it the first time, it was anticlockwise.

0567524700.gif

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test … do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
“big picture” oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can “get it” (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking
