The Right Brain vs Left Brain test

I see it both clockwise and anticlockwise … But when I saw it the first time, it was anticlockwise.

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test … do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

Road accident

There was an accident along Jalan Bukit Merah just now. I think the old man was trying to cross the road in his bicycle when a car hit him. He died on the spot. It’s indeed sad … :< I usually jay walk across that road in the morning but after seeing this, I don't think I will do it again. There's a sign that says no crossing.

A Closer Look At The iPhone

Apple has introduced iPhone, which combines a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and an Internet communications device with desktop-class email, Web browsing, searching and maps into one small and lightweight handheld device.

apple-iphone.jpg Users can control the phone with just their fingers. They can make calls by simply pointing at a name or number. The devices Visual Voicemail lets users look at a listing of their voicemails, decide which messages to listen to, then go directly to those messages without listening to the prior messages.

The phone features a 2 MP camera and a photo management application. The iPhone is also a widescreen iPod with touch controls that lets music lovers “touch” their music by easily scrolling through entire lists of songs, artists, albums and playlists with just a flick of a finger.

The device also features Cover Flow, Apple’s way to browse your music library by album cover artwork. When navigating your music library on iPhone, you are automatically switched into Cover Flow by simply rotating iPhone into its landscape position.

Watch how it works!

The meatrix

This is why I should become a vegetarian! I will … sooner or later … Becoming a vegan would be too hard. I should start with becoming a pesco vegetarian first. I consider myself being a semi-vegetarian right now.

The Meatrix is a two-minute flash animation that spoofs the popular Matrix movies. But instead of Keanu Reaves, the Meatrix stars a young pig, Leo, who lives on a pleasant family farm … he thinks. Leo is approached by a wise and mysterious cow, Moopheus, who shows Leo the truth about modern farming — the truth about the Meatrix!

The film describes the problems with factory farming and offers viewers a solution – the final page of the flash directs viewers to the Eat Well Guide, a national online directory of sustainably-raised meat, which is available at http://www.eatwellguide.org

Kitten Walks on Front Paws

Here’s another story of another animal that does something strange (previous story was “Faith, the two legged dog”). This one is Lola, a 7-week-old kitty at the Maxfund no-kill shelter in Denver. The reason why Lola walks this way is because her hind legs are deformed. They’re longer than they should be, and employees at the Maxfund believe she has at least some partial paralysis. But she has adapted, and she is not in any pain.

Recent sudden heart deaths no more than usual, statistics-wise.

AND now there are five. Don’t panic, say docs.
The latest victim of a sudden cardiac arrest is a 35-year-old Singaporean man who was working in Xiamen, China.

On Saturday, the 35-year-old director working in a manufacturing business suffered severe chest pains and died before he could be brought to the hospital. Like the others before him, he was a healthy individual. This means the number of young men dying suddenly of heart attacks has risen to five in the last three weeks.

But while the numbers may seem alarming, there is no indication that this reflects an increase in such deaths, known as sudden cardiac deaths, said cardiologists.

“In general, the trends have remained about the same,” said head and senior consultant cardiologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Dr Ho Kheng Thye. “The apparent increase in the trend may not reflect an increase in absolute numbers of patients dying, but it’s reached the collective consciousness more effectively,” he said.

According to a study by the National Heart Centre, about 300 people aged between 18 and 60 die suddenly every year between 2001 and 2003. It was not known how many had died in their sleep. Most deaths were caused by cardiovascular conditions, while 3 per cent of these cases had no known cause.

It is this report that many doctors refer to when asked about the recent deaths. However, some members of the public are asking for more updated figures.

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth by former US vice president Al Gore. Has anyone seen it? It will be screened in Singapore at Golden Village theatres from 26th October – 8th November. It’s a 2hr30 documentary. I wanna watch!

Global warming is real. It is caused by human activity. Mankind and its governments must begin immediate action to halt and reverse it. If we do nothing, in about 10 years the planet may reach a “tipping point” and begin a slide toward destruction of our civilization and most of the other species on this planet. After that point is reached, it would be too late for any action.

inconvenienttruth.jpg These facts are stated by Al Gore in the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” He stands on a stage before a vast screen, in front of an audience. The documentary is based on a speech he has been developing for six years, and is supported by dramatic visuals. He shows the famous photograph “Earthrise,” taken from space by the first American astronauts. Then he shows a series of later space photographs, clearly indicating that glaciers and lakes are shrinking, snows are melting, shorelines are retreating – continue reading

Cola Raises Women’s Osteoporosis Risk

Women who drink cola daily had lower bone mineral density than those who drink it only once a week. If you are worried about osteoporosis, it is probably a good idea to switch to another beverage or to limit your cola to occasional use. Bone density among women who drank cola daily was almost 4 percent less, compared with women who didn’t drink cola. Cola intake was not associated with lower bone mineral density in men. The findings were similar for diet cola, but weaker for decaffeinated cola, the researchers reported. Women should limit their caffeine intake. Caffeine interferes with calcium absorption, which results in less bone formation. Younger women who have a lot of coke will not form bone to an extent their peers would; so, years later, in menopause, they are going to be disadvantaged.
