More cleanings

Today sis, bro and Althea helped me clean the flat. We’ve removed some of the furniture from the living room and kept them inside the other room. We also cleared the kitchen’s cabinets. Now the cabinets are all empty and the living room looks more spacious. The kitchen was the worse part of course. There were baby cockroaches hiding inside the tiny holes of the drawers. We killed 3 mother cockroaches too. God it was grossssss. There was this reddish white egg attached to the mother cockroach. Disgusting. Next weekend we are going to pain the living room, the kitchen and the master bedroom. I can’t wait!

Too excited?

I keep thinking about my new room … so much to the point that I can’t sleep at night. I guess I’m just excited about the whole moving in. I try to picture out how my room will look like if I buy this or that stuff and in this or that colour. I borrowed several home decor books and have learnt some pretty interesting things about colours, furniture, paint etc.

Yesterday after work I met sis at IKEA and we went to look for a few things for my new bedroom. I got my curtain and a wall poster. Aline, you asked if I’m gonna repaint the walls? I am going to paint one side of the bedroom’s wall.

Bought two hotdogs at IKEA. Yummy!!!!!!! And sooo much cheaper than those sold at the cinema haha.

Hotdog

Today the PestBusters people came. They were two young dudes, one looked like a secondary school student! They sprayed something that kill crawling insects. They also set up traps. Will check out the result this weekend. Hopefully the $126 spent will be worth it.

I’m tired.

Aching body

I’m moving out at the end of February and gonna rent a place in the East. Yes me alone in a whole flat haa. So on Saturday I spent 6 hours cleaning up the place. It’s been vacant for more than a year (or even two) I think.

First, we went to buy the basic cleaning stuffs like a mop, a hose, scrubbers, bygon, air freshener, cleaning solutions etc. Phew we spent almost $100 on these alone!

I spent 3 hours cleaning the master bedroom + bathroom and another 3 hours helping dear with the kitchen.

The kitchen was the toughest to clean and we’ve only cleaned like a quarter of it. But the most shitty part is done — I meant the cockroach part (believe me it was far worse than what you see on the 4th picture). My wrists hurt after so much scrubbing. My back feels like I’ve been doing a lot of back raises haha. But you know what, it was fun. Okay maybe not very much but jusst a little fun. Of course it was a nightmare for the boy heh heh :> He wanted his full rest on Sunday ha ha.

We left the place at 11pm. We have to go there again for more cleanings. I can’t wait to get it all done! I must also absolutely beautify the bedroom because it looks like a hospital room right now (I will never paint my walls all white!).

Here are some pics of the place.

The weekend

We spent Saturday evening at Bugis. Haven’t gone there in a while. We wanted to try the ‘Tian Tian’ steamboat buffet which we heard was nice. Alas it was crowded and as impatient as I am, I didn’t want to wait. So we ate elsewhere at another steamboat eating place.

Next, we walked along Bugis street and bought some tidbits along the way — peanut + corn pancakes, peanut tutu kueh and BBQ coated peanuts. Dar bought fresh papaya juice followed by fresh mango juice. Eek I think he will hit the toilet soon haha. Well the mango juice was nice and costed only $1.50!

On Sunday we watched a thai ghost movie called “Spirit of the Victim“. There were only 4 of us inside the cinema room (including both of us). The movie was not bad but I did not fully understand the story plot which left me a little confused. In the evening I met my sister at MOS Burger and stayed there to chit chat.

Peanut Tutu Kueh

It was a sweet but short weekend.

In case you, non-singaporeans, wonder how ‘tutu’ is prepared, here’s a short video that I took when I bought some ‘tutu’. Fill half the small cup with prepared rice flour (looks like powder). Top with 1-2 tsp shredded sweetened coconut / peanut and cover with more flour. Place in in a steam-cooker for about 2 mins. Once cooked, place a small piece of pandan leaf under the ‘tutu’.

The Rail Mall

Look at the right lane of the road. There’s always heavy traffic every evening!! Took this pic with my N73 phone (“landscape” mode without flash). The picture turned out not too bad heh.

A Closer Look At The iPhone

Apple has introduced iPhone, which combines a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and an Internet communications device with desktop-class email, Web browsing, searching and maps into one small and lightweight handheld device.

apple-iphone.jpg Users can control the phone with just their fingers. They can make calls by simply pointing at a name or number. The devices Visual Voicemail lets users look at a listing of their voicemails, decide which messages to listen to, then go directly to those messages without listening to the prior messages.

The phone features a 2 MP camera and a photo management application. The iPhone is also a widescreen iPod with touch controls that lets music lovers “touch” their music by easily scrolling through entire lists of songs, artists, albums and playlists with just a flick of a finger.

The device also features Cover Flow, Apple’s way to browse your music library by album cover artwork. When navigating your music library on iPhone, you are automatically switched into Cover Flow by simply rotating iPhone into its landscape position.

Watch how it works!

Tarts …. Singlish

I had two super yummy freshly baked egg tarts this morning (2 for $1.30). They ran out of waffle batter and I wanted to try their egg tarts since a while back. Ahhh the egg tart’s crust is very nice (and I only ate the crust, as usual)! It’s just the way I like it. I’m pretty full right now — wasn’t hungry in the first place. Well, one good thing about my new work environment is that are many small “mama shops” around.

mama shop” is a singlish word meaning a sundry shop or general provision shop.

Speaking of singlish words … yesterday I watched this local show (Girls Out Loud) on YouTube and the first part was about asking foreigners the meaning of a few singlish words.

I didn’t know what “Vomit Blood” and “Itchy Backside” meant (although I heard those words a few times) until I watched the show.

Their meanings:

Vomit Blood — Get very angry
Itchy Backside — Very busy body

The word “Itchy Backside” is indeed funny!! The other singlish word was “Shake Leg” and I knew what it meant. It means “being very relaxed”. My own version is “scratch & smell” ahaha.
